What is a Malaysia Visa?
In simple terms, a Malaysia visa is the go-ahead from the Immigration Department of Malaysia that lets you enter and stay in the country for a set purpose and period. What you'll actually need depends on your passport: some travellers apply for a full eVisa, others qualify for the lighter eNTRI registration, and a few nationalities don't need a visa for short tourist trips at all. On top of that, since 1 January 2024, almost everyone flying in – visa or no visa – also has to fill out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before landing. It sounds like a lot to keep track of, but once you know which category applies to you, the rest is fairly straightforward, and that's the first thing FlyOn Travel checks before we start your application.
Types of Malaysia Visa
Tourist Visa (eVisa)
This is the standard route for holidaymakers – sightseeing, visiting family, that sort of trip. It's applied for entirely online and generally suits nationalities that don't fall under the eNTRI or visa-free categories.
eNTRI (Electronic Travel Registration and Information)
A lighter, faster registration available to certain nationalities, including many from South Asia. It's strictly for tourism and caps your stay at 15 days.
Note – Indian Residence
Effective 1 December 2023 until 31 December 2026, Indian passport holders are exempt from the standard visa requirement for tourism purposes. However, travel is not completely documentation-free Indian residence must complete an eNTRI registration before departure and carry the eNTRI Note upon arrival. This is not a visa; it is a mandatory pre-travel registration under Malaysia's Visa Waiver Programme. FlyOn Travel handles this registration on your behalf so nothing gets missed before you fly.
Business Visa
For anyone heading over for meetings, conferences, or trade work. You'll usually need an invitation letter from the Malaysian company you're dealing with, along with a few supporting business documents.
Transit Visa
If you're just passing through a Malaysian airport on your way somewhere else, some nationalities need a transit visa depending on how long the layover is.
Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
This one catches a lot of travellers off guard – it's a separate, mandatory declaration submitted online in the three days before you land, on top of whatever visa you hold.
Malaysia Visa Fees & Processing Time
Processing times are estimates and may vary depending on your nationality and how quickly documents are submitted. Business visas can occasionally take a little longer. Our general advice is to start the process at least a week before you're due to fly, just to keep some breathing room.
| Visa Type | Entry | Fee (AED) | Permitted Stay | Processing Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tourist eVisa | Single Entry | AED 400 | 30 days | 2–4 working days |
| Tourist eVisa | Multiple Entry | AED 500 | 30 days per visit | 2–4 working days |
| eNTRI | Single Entry | Confirm with us | Up to 15 days | 1–2 working days |

Important Information for Travellers
eVisa Must Be Presented in Printed Format
Upon approval, the Malaysia eVisa must be printed in A4 format prior to travel. Malaysian immigration authorities do not accept eVisa documents displayed on mobile phones or digital devices. A physical printed copy is mandatory and must be presented at the entry checkpoint alongside your passport.
Understanding Visa Validity vs. Permitted Stay
These are two distinct concepts that are frequently confused:
A 3-month visa validity means the visa must be used within three months of issue — it does not mean you may remain in Malaysia for three months.
| Visa | Visa Validity | Permitted Stay |
|---|---|---|
| Tourist eVisa | 3 months from date of issue | 30 days per entry |
| eNTRI | As per approval | Up to 15 days |
Visa Extensions Are Not Permitted
Malaysia's tourist eVisa cannot be extended from within the country. Travellers who wish to remain beyond their permitted stay must exit Malaysia and submit a new application from outside the country.
Children and Minors Require Separate Authorisation
Every individual entering Malaysia - regardless of age - is required to hold the appropriate visa, registration, or exemption documentation. This includes infants and young children travelling with their families. FlyOn Travel manages family and group applications collectively to ensure all travellers are correctly covered.
Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate
Travellers arriving from countries designated as yellow fever risk zones by the Malaysian authorities are required to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate upon arrival. Failure to produce this document may result in quarantine or refusal of entry.
Overstay Penalties
Overstaying beyond the permitted duration is a serious immigration offence under Malaysian law. Penalties include fines of up to RM 10,000, detention, deportation, and prohibition from future entry into Malaysia. All resulting fines, legal costs, and consequences remain the sole responsibility of the traveller.
eVisa Cannot Be Applied from Within Malaysia
The Malaysia eVisa application must be submitted from outside Malaysia. Applications initiated from within the country, or from Israel or North Korea, will not be accepted through the official portal.
How to Apply
A clean, 5-step process that removes all the guesswork.
- Send us your travel details FlyOn Travel & Tourism – nationality, passport copy, and your planned travel dates.
- We check your documents against Malaysia's current immigration requirements, so nothing gets flagged later.
- Once everything checks out, we submit your eVisa, eNTRI, or business visa application through the proper official channels.
- Closer to your travel date, we help you handle the Digital Arrival Card too, so you're not scrambling for it last minute.
- When approval comes through, your eVisa or eNTRI confirmation lands in your inbox – just print it in A4 and keep it with your passport for immigration.
Worth keeping in mind: the final call on approval and entry always rests with Malaysia's Immigration Department, not with us or any travel agency.
Additional Information
A few things are worth knowing before you apply. UAE and other GCC nationals are generally exempt from needing a visa for short tourist visits, while several South Asian nationalities travel under the eNTRI system instead of a full visa. That said, the Digital Arrival Card applies to almost everyone regardless of visa status – exemption from a visa doesn't mean exemption from the MDAC. Tourist visas typically allow stays of up to 30 days, and there's usually no extending them from inside the country – if you want to stay longer, you'll need to exit and reapply. Because Malaysia does update its entry rules from time to time, we always double-check the latest information on the official Immigration Department of Malaysia website before submitting anything on your behalf, just so you're applying under the right category with the most current requirements.
