Who Needs an Austria Visa?
UAE Citizens (Passport Holders)
UAE passport holders do not require a visa to visit Austria and the wider Schengen Area for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180–day period. Do note that the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), expected to come into effect toward the end of 2026, is likely to apply to visa–exempt travellers such as UAE nationals once it launches. FlyOn will keep clients updated as ETIAS rules are finalised.
UAE Residents (Expat Residence Visa Holders)
If you are a UAE resident – holding a valid Emirates ID and UAE residence visa through employment, business, or family sponsorship – and you are not a citizen of a visa–exempt country, you must apply for an Austria Schengen visa before travel. Visa requirements are based on your passport nationality, not your UAE residency status. This applies to the majority of expats living in the UAE, including Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi, and many other nationalities.
Types of Austria Visa

Schengen Short–Stay Visa (Type C)
For tourism, holidays, sightseeing, and short leisure trips of up to 90 days. Covers iconic experiences like Vienna's imperial palaces, Salzburg's old town, and the Austrian Alps. Most UAE residents apply for this category through VFS Global.
- Business Visa: For attending meetings, conferences, trade fairs, or short business–related trips to Austria. Requires an invitation letter from your Austria–based host company or business contact.
- Transit Visa: If your travel route passes through an Austrian airport and you need to pass through immigration, a transit visa may be required depending on your nationality. FlyOn will advise you based on your passport.
- Family Visit Visa: For UAE residents visiting close relatives or friends residing in Austria. An invitation or sponsorship letter from your Austria–based host, along with supporting relationship documents, will be required.
National Visa (Type D)
For long–term stays exceeding 90 days, including work, study, or residence purposes in Austria. This route requires additional documentation supporting the purpose of your stay and is generally processed directly through the Austrian authorities.
- Multiple–Entry Visa: If you travel to Austria or the Schengen Area regularly – for business or personal reasons – a multiple–entry visa allows you to enter and exit without reapplying each time, within the visa's validity period.

Austria Visa Document Requirements for UAE Residents

Core Documents (All Applicants)
- Valid passport – minimum 3 months' validity beyond your intended departure from the Schengen Area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least 2 blank pages
- Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
- Recent passport–size photograph – white background, ICAO–compliant, taken within the last 6 months (glasses are not permitted)
- UAE Residence Visa copy – valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended Schengen visa expiry
- Emirates ID copy (front and back)
- Bank statements – last 3 to 6 months, bank–stamped, showing sufficient funds for your stay
- Proof of employment – NOC letter from employer on company letterhead (including salary, designation and approved leave dates), or trade license if self–employed
- Confirmed return flight itinerary
- Hotel booking or accommodation proof for your full stay in Austria
- Travel insurance with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000, valid across the entire Schengen Area (mandatory for all applicants)
- Proof of ties to UAE – employment contract, tenancy agreement, or family documents showing you will return
Additional for Business Visa
- Invitation letter from your Austria–based host company
- Company registration or business license of the Austrian entity
Additional for Family Visit Visa
- Invitation/sponsorship letter from your Austria–based host
- Proof of relationship (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.)
- Host's Austrian residency or citizenship proof, along with a copy of their passport and tenancy contract

Good to Know Before You Travel
Since October 2025, the Schengen Area has been rolling out the Entry/Exit System (EES), which digitally records biometric data and entry/exit dates at the border, replacing manual passport stamping.
The Austrian Embassy in Abu Dhabi makes the final visa decision on all applications, regardless of whether you submit through the Dubai or Abu Dhabi VFS Global centre.
